Hi Damien, Here is my take on not starting postgresql:
It is usually the maintainers choice (in this case Ben) on how to handle this. I can't speak for Ben, but in this case I think it is correct that the postgresql packages do not automatically turn on the databases. There are a number of packages that require various versions of postgresql be installed, but that doesn't mean a user that installed those other packages wants to have a bunch of postgresql database servers running. It's not possible to handle the needs of every user, so in this case, having instructions in "fink describe postgresql82" and at the end of the install seems to me to be a good balance.
