If i may play Devil's Advocate here, an OS installs a bunch of stuff w/o knowing whether a particular user will use them all. As such, it is to be expected that you wouldn't want a bunch a bunch of un-needed processes chewing up RAM. However, a user who intentionally installs a package could reasonably expect that package to be immediately usable. Is there a way for fink to tell whether a package was installed directly or as a dependency? If not, what would be the harm in creating an optional auto-start module?? As an aside, i don't use PostgreSQL [used to use mysql, but gave up the fussing and went with OpenOffice/Base].
