Just to chime in with one specific answer here:
> Package: system-pkgconfig-gimpprint

That weird Version is a bug in OS X 10.4 that should not have any
effect. I think packages only look for the presence of s-p-g rather
than doing a "is it at least SOMEVERSION?" test.
