Care to provide any console output for this? kmail-x11-4.4.0 works for
me. (10.5.8/i386)

Forgetting to write the error down is not helpful in a bug report.
However, I had kdebase4-workspace-x11 hang with 4.2.4 on one of my
10.5.8 machines:

As for the error in kdebase4-runtime: I'm not sure. That may be
something for the maintainer to look into, or for somebody to try to
confirm on x86_64 (10.6 or 10.5).
