This sounds like an x11 window-manager-related issue. You say KDE
handles are lost...those window decorations and controls are in a
frame controlled by the window-manager that surrounds the 'display'
program window. I cannot reproduce the problem using fluxbox on
10.4. What window-manager is being run?

Does downgrading the "imagemagick" package solve it? 'fink dumpinfo
-fallversions imagemagick' might give some older choices that can be
installed directly. For example, I see 6.4.1-1018, so I could 'fink
install imagemagick-6.4.1-1018'.
