That's OS 10.6.3.  The Darwin kernel is version 10.3 in that case, as
opposed to 9.8 on OS 10.5.8.

Judging by your prior messages, (which, by the way, I really hate to
have to rely on) the issue could potentially be use of Xquartz rather
than the official X11.  Fink's xinitrc package (which is in the GNOME
dependency chain) is set up to tweak things on with the assumption that
X11 is in /usr/X11R6 (via symlink) and not /opt/X11.


We don't support Xquartz on 10.6.
