Have you run "fink selfupdate-rsync" (or "fink selfupdate-cvs")? 10.6 and
10.7 support building packages outside the core ONLY from source. I don't
think you have the package list (which the commands above establish on first
use).
Fink does not use /etc/apt/sources.list (it in fact uses very, very little
outside the /sw tree). You will have much more success starting with "man
fink" than trying to apply you apt-get experience. This really is a different,
self-contained package manager; using stuff other than the various "fink …"
commands should be needed only for repairs of installations that got corrupted
somehow.

Yes, but I have os x 10.6 and fink list only gives me 313 packages.
I suppose Apple changed SO MUCH that source packages do not compile out of the
box?
I've been looking at macports, and there are 13000 available...
Would it be possible to add source packages in /etc/apt/sources.list (and why
not?).
