You seem to need an X11 installation.
I am still using Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard, so I can't give exact answers,
but I am sure that Lion also offers X11, an user and a developer package. I
have installed.
com.apple.pkg.X11DocumentationLeo
com.apple.pkg.X11SDKLeo
com.apple.pkg.X11User
(output from pkgutil --pkgs). The first one might not be needed, it just
contains the MAN pages, the second package has the needed C header files, and
the needed third package contains the run-time environment.
I'm not sure how Fink can be taught to learn that X11 is now installed. Maybe
it works to invoke
fink install system-pkgconfig-x11 system-xfree86 system-xfree86-dev
system-xfree86-shlibs system-xfree86-manual-install
(package names from Snow Leopard). The last package name corresponds with
com.apple.pkg.X11DocumentationLeo.
