Hi and thank you for the answer.
When I look into the folder /usr I can only see an X11 folder but no X11R6. Is 
that the problem?

This is completely incorrect.  You cannot install a _virtual_ package
via "fink install".

fink automatically activates the x11 virtual packages based on what is
installed on a system.

Let's look at the simplest options first:

1)  Do you have a symbolic link /usr/X11R6 that points to /usr/X11 ?
fink looks in /usr/X11R6 for the X11 installation, and normally that
symlink has been present (provided by Apple) to provide backward
compatibility for older software.

2)  If that symbolic link is present, then please run

fink-virtual-pkgs --debug 2>&1 | grep -A30 libX11

and post the results back here.
