if i remove

/sw/fink/10.8/stable/main/binary-darwin-x86_64/base/dpkg_1.10.21-1238_darwin-x86_64.deb
and try to update dpkg with
    'fink update dpkg'
i'm getting the exact same error than when trying to run
   'fink selfupdate'

it looks as if the error occurs when tarring the dpkg package :
   Writing md5sums file...
   dpkg-deb -b root-dpkg-1.10.21-1238
/sw/fink/10.8/stable/main/binary-darwin-x86_64/base

/sw/fink/10.8/stable/main/binary-darwin-x86_64/base/dpkg_1.10.21-1238_darwin-x86_64.deb
 ».
   tar: mémoire épuisée
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
/sw/bin/dpkg-deb: le sous-processus tar -cf a retourné une erreur de sortie
