Look into your xv.info file! There the correct name of the archive is recorded, 
for example as

        xv-%v.tar.gz

The variable %v is set quite early in the file's header:

        Version: 3.10a

In this case fink expects a file

        xv-3.10a.tar.gz

(And fink tried to fetch xv-3.10a.tar.gz. It later assumes that file being 
saved in /sw/src – if not changed in the configuration.) Check also your 
archive's MD5 checksum!
