Charles,
        Is that an error during *building* guile20, or during use of 
guile20 in your package?  I unfortunately don't have 10.9 for testing, but 
I can ask someone in #fink to test on 10.9 (and I thought I had before).
Is vm.c already de-optimized in your guile20.info?
