I can’t really say anything definitive about that without seeing the errors for
myself.

If the errors are coming from updating different packages, rather than from the
fink internals, then I suggest filing individual bug reports for each failure,
since the most common situation is that failures in different packages are
unrelated, and this makes it easier for people looking online to find the
thread if they are having similar problems.

That’s not too surprising (and also a good thing). Errors in the fink package
don’t generally affect what you already have installed—only the ability to
install new packages/versions, and failures to update installed packages
generally leave your currently installed version intact.

Is the issue that Xquartz won’t start even manually, or just that the
auto-start doesn’t work? If it’s just the latter, try at least logging out, or
even rebooting. I often have had to kill X11 processes manually or log out
when my X11/Xquartz becomes responsive.

If the issue is that Xquartz won’t even start manually, try using “startx” to
start Xquartz or start it via the application icon and check the console log
e.g. using /Utilities/Console(.app) to see if there are any error messages.
Are you customizing your X11 startup? Make sure that you are actually running
a window manager, if so.
