Hi I am new to Fipy and to this forum. I am trying to install FiPy-1.2 on a SUN Sparc Blade-2500 running on Solaris 9. I have gcc-3.3.2 installed on it. Here is a brief description of my installation procedure.
1. Python-2.4.3: Downloaded from www.sunfreeware.com and installed. Its working. 2. Numpy-1.0.2: Downloaded from www.sourceforgenet.com and installed successfully. Installed in /path/numpy. Here I call /path = /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/ 3. pysparse-1.0.1: Downloaded from http://pysparse.sourceforge.net. While following the installation procedure it complained: ld: fatal: can't find -llapack and -lblas library. I modified setup.py in the source directory for SunOS and it seems to be installed now. Following are the last few lines from the installation log. running install_lib copying build/lib.solaris-2.9-sun4u-2.4/pysparse/spmatrix.so -> /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse copying build/lib.solaris-2.9-sun4u-2.4/pysparse/itsolvers.so -> /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse copying build/lib.solaris-2.9-sun4u-2.4/pysparse/precon.so -> /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse copying build/lib.solaris-2.9-sun4u-2.4/pysparse/superlu.so -> /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse copying build/lib.solaris-2.9-sun4u-2.4/pysparse/jdsym.so -> /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse copying build/lib.solaris-2.9-sun4u-2.4/pysparse/umfpack.so -> /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse running install_headers 4. matplotlib: Installed successfully. For this I had to install the ³freetype² from www.sunfreeware.com 5. gnuplot-py: installed 6. MayaVi: Installed 7. FiPy-1.2: Installed 8. SciPy: Not installed. All libraries (LAPACK,ATLAS,BLAS) are installed as described in scipy INSTALLATION.txt. But still complaining: ld:fatal:relocations remain against allocatable but non-writable sections. Looks like its not able to link to shared libraries. Since scipy is not necessary to run FiPy and all other necessary things are installed (though pysparse was installed after some modifications) I tried to run an example code on FiPy. Here is what I got. >From FiPy base directory: bash-2.05$ examples/diffusion/mesh1D.py Traceback (most recent call last): File "examples/diffusion/mesh1D.py", line 778, in ? import fipy.tests.doctestPlus File "/usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/fipy/__init__.py", line 6, in ? from solvers import * File "/usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/fipy/solvers/__init__.py", line 1, in ? from linearCGSSolver import LinearCGSSolver File "/usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/fipy/solvers/linearCGSSolver.py", line 47, in ? from pysparse import precon ImportError: ld.so.1: python: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse/precon.so: symbol dcopy_: referenced symbol not found An ldd on precon.so produces: bash-2.05$ ldd /usr/local/lib/python2.4/site-packages/pysparse/precon.so libg2c.so.0 => /usr/local/lib/libg2c.so.0 libgcc_s.so.1 => /usr/local/lib/libgcc_s.so.1 libm.so.1 => /usr/lib/libm.so.1 libc.so.1 => /usr/lib/libc.so.1 libdl.so.1 => /usr/lib/libdl.so.1 This tells me the libraries exist and are found. But I could not figure out this problem. I would really appreciate any suggestions/work around to get rid of this problem and make FiPy running. Once this starts working I will post a detail installation procedure for Sun Solaris 9 which I could not find anywhere on the web. Sorry for the long email and thanks in advance. -- Regards R R Mohanty University of Central Florida FL-32816, USA Ph-407-435-7589
