Can FiPy solve an equation containing a convection term but no

Yes.
It would seem this would cause a problem with calculation of the
Peclet number. The workaround I was going to use would be to 1)
implement the convection term as a source term or 2) choose a very
small diffusion coefficient so that the equation could be
implemented using the built in convection schemes.
FiPy already does the latter automatically, when needed.
examples/convection/advection/ illustrates a few cases of pure
convection.
