Can FiPy solve an equation containing a convection term but no

Yes, the type of convective term depends on what characteristic of
your function you wish to preserve. For most
convective-diffusive problems, a regular first order convection term
is fine. However, when solving without a diffusion term,
it is often the requirement that smoothness or sharpness is
preserved. If you are advecting a distance function or sharp
interface special terms exist for this. I'll tell you more at your
request.
It would seem this would cause a problem with calculation of the
Peclet number.
It is just assumed to be very large when there is no diffusion term.
The workaround I was going to use would be to 1) implement the
convection term as a source term or
No need. A convection term should do what is says on the box.
2) choose a very small diffusion coefficient so that the equation
could be implemented using the built in convection schemes.
No need. Everything should be taken care of.
