Hmm. One of my co-workers here has the same problem on his home
machine. I don't have access to the machine trouble shoot the problem
completely, but it sounds like the NIB is simply failing to load. I'd
bet there some good diagnostics if you can catch the console output of
the program or run it under GDB. As I can't replicate the problem, it
is hard guide you on this.
The only thing I have seen amongst those who have experienced this
problem is the installation of GnuPG through Fink.
So.. here is an ugly work around.
If you want to use GPG and can't open the preferences panel, shut down
Fire and:
(1) Make sure gpg is in /usr/local/bin/gpg. If it isn't, link it to the
copy with ln -s:
ln -s /path/to/your/gpg /usr/local/bin/gpg
(2) Set the KeyID and popup password prompt preference manually:
Run:
gpg --list-secret-keys | awk -F '[ /]' '/^sec/ {print $4;}'
to list the key IDs you have (you should really know your Key ID
already). Choose one of these.
For me this command outputs:
33131B65
82844984
I prefer my key: 82844984
So, I run:
defaults write Fire ProfileKey -string 82844984
defaults write Fire PassOnLaunch -integer 1
Then start fire. Obvioius replace my key id with yours.
If, for some strange reason, this screws up fire, you can back it out by:
defaults delete Fire ProfileKey
defaults delete Fire PassOnLaunch
This hack worked for my guy and might be useful to other experiencing
the same problem -- until I (or someone else) tracks down what the
current problems are.
