To send and receive encrypted (or signed) messages, yes.  When I was first
testing with GPG, one of the services wasn't working, and I wrote it off to
exceeding the message length allowed.  I don't remember which service it was
(although I know AIM, MSN, and ICQ work), nor did I ever confirm that that's
what was happening.  It's a guess more than anything.

I'll tip my hand, in case another developer tackles this issue before I do.
This is what Fire should do.  Any limitations imposed by the service should
be invisible to the user.
