Subject: [inbox] Question about VPC report on women killed by men

> A VPC report, http://www.vpc.org/studies/dv3myth.htm

> Supplementary Homicide Report) that of 1,932 single-offender/single-victim
> homicides of women by men, 1,699 involved acquaintances and 138 involved
> strangers (in the remainder the relationship was unknown). Any sense of

Keep in mind that "acquaintance" and "stranger" may not mean what they first
seem to mean. I have some recollection that the definition of
"acquaintance"
in FBI stats can mean something as casual as having met the person before,
and recognizing them. Yes, a lot of these are probably ex-boyfriends,
but some of them might be the creepy neighbor down the hall, or the guy that
was never a boyfriend, but the woman was too polite to get a restraining
order against.

If you say, "acquaintance," to a lot of people, that means someone who is a
voluntary member of your social set.
