Occasionally, people ask me to forward posts to the list for
them. I'm happy to do this when I can, but sometimes I'm on the road,
on a slow connection, or otherwise out of touch. Let me then suggest
some things you yourself can do if your post isn't coming through. And
PLEASE SAVE THIS MESSAGE FOR FUTURE REFERENCE!
1. If your posts are being bounced with a message saying that
you aren't subscribed to the list, that probably means your e-mail
address has changed. Go to
http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/firearmsregprof (please
BOOKMARK THAT PAGE!), subscribe from your new address, and unsubscribe
from your old address.
If your messages sometimes come from one address and sometimes
from another, but incoming messages to both addresses end up in your
mailbox, just subscribe to both and then set your "Mail Delivery" option
for one address to "Disabled" -- that way, you'll be able to post from
both addresses, but won't get multiple copies.
2. If you're not sure if your post got through, go to the same
URL I gave above, and just check the archives to see if your post is
included.
3. If you get a message saying that your post is too long and
is being held by the moderator, please shorten the post and resubmit it.
I DELETE such held posts, on the theory that any post that's over 40 Kb
can be and should be shortened for the benefit of list subscribers.
4. If you get some error message, read it closely, see how you
can fix the problem, but conclude that you can't do it yourself, please
DO NOT just e-mail me and say "I'm having problems" -- I'll have no idea
what your problems are. Rather, FORWARD the error message to me.
(That's good advice for dealing with any technical support people, by
the way.)
All the best,
Eugene
