This entire debate is misframed. It is not properly a question of "duty
to retreat" or "stand your ground", or even "self-defense". The duty of
all persons who are members of a society is to help enforce the laws of
that society. We have become so indoctrinated in depending on officials
to perform public duties that we have forgotten that it is the duty of
everyone to perform public duties. The duty in a violent confrontation
with a criminal is to make an arrest, and the answer to why you had to
shoot him is not "self-defense" but "he was resisting arrest".
Let the word go forth. Never send to know where are the police. You are
the police.
