In Minnesota, Senator Dick Cohen told his colleagues that a "no" vote on his amendment was anti-semitic and the spineless Republicans agreed (only one conservative Democrat voted "no").  I was teaching at St. Louis U at the time (and wrote a few letters to House members) but the NRA lobbiest was completely absent.
