Kristin A. Goss, assistant professor of public policy studies and political science at Duke University, who wrote "Disarmed: The Missing Movement for Gun Control in America"
News & Observer print edition Friday, Oct 6, 2006 p 15A The missing data about guns Kristin A. Goss www.newsandobserver.com says: We do not have permission to reproduce this story on our website. She's published some material on gun control - see: http://fds.duke.edu/db/aas/PoliticalScience/faculty/kgoss her book, mentioned above, is cited at http://fds.duke.edu/db/aas/PoliticalScience/faculty/kgoss/publications The drift of her op-ed is given by the "Congress puts a lid on legitimate research" "In my book on gun politics in America, I argue that one reason why pro-control groups have been unbale to mobilize their grass-roots sympathizers is because their opponents have blocked federal agencies from collecting and disseminating information that would help citizen advocates make their case. To understand the political imporance of authoritative government data, ask yourself this: Where would the anti-tobacco movement be today if cigarette companies had prevented the surgeon general from documenting the health hazards of smoking? ..." She clearly feels sorry for the BATFE and CDC's being restricted by Congress and gives not a hint that these agencies did anything but honest research. -- --henry schaffer _______________________________________________ To post, send message to [email protected] To subscribe, unsubscribe, change options, or get password, see http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/firearmsregprof Please note that messages sent to this large list cannot be viewed as private.
