I anticipate that the SC will recognize the individual right, but also leave a "reasonable regulation" exception, without defining what "reasonable" means, that the gungrabbers can drive a truck through, as they have been. I am aiming to get at least dicta to the effect that the only kind of regulation that is reasonable is that which enhances the effectiveness of militia, defined as "defense activity", which means activity by any number of persons, including one acting alone. The original Latin meaning was "military service", or, since the Romans used militia for disaster response, "defense service" or "defense activity". Try substituting those phrases for the word "militia" whenever it is not used with an article, "a" or "the", and what they say makes more sense. Most of the key Founders were fluent in Latin, and it was the idiom of the time to use the same word for an activity to also refer, secondarily, to those engaged in it. Examples include "service", "assembly", "congregation", "aggregation", "movement", "wedding", "viking", "delegation", "march", "ministry", "court", "jury", and "hunt".
In other words, the aim is to frame at least the dicta, and perhaps the finding. -- Jon ---------------------------------------------------------------- Constitution Society 7793 Burnet Road #37, Austin, TX 78757 512/299-5001 www.constitution.org [EMAIL PROTECTED] ---------------------------------------------------------------- _______________________________________________ To post, send message to [email protected] To subscribe, unsubscribe, change options, or get password, see http://lists.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/firearmsregprof Please note that messages sent to this large list cannot be viewed as private.
