In California you can be charged with carrying just about anything as a weapon. 
Cal PC 12020 is very loose in its definition of weapons. A screwdriver is 
considered a dagger depending upon intent and a baseball bat a billy club a 
possessing a hammer can similarly lead to being prosecuted. Essentially they 
have chosen to ban anything that can be used as a stabbing or bludgeoning 
weapon if your intention is to use it as such.
