It's been my observation that when various morbidity/mortality compilations populate a class of "other," it usually doesn't mean "something different from one of our named categories" as much as it means "undetermined which of the other named categories these belonged to" -- i.e., unsolved, cold trail, etc. The best example of this is the CDC compilation that breaks down gun deaths into handgun, long gun, and "other."
