I do not agree with your testing analysis/methodology... When testing using an empty database the timing values are so small that any small different gets magnified -- for the empty database is difference between pool size = 1 and 20 is only 0.4 ms!! That is **nothing** I would worry about! Yes, is it a difference of 50% to the baseline value, but in the larger scheme of things there are operations which will take far more time than that.
