You make a good point. The only problem is that 2.5.3 has been available as a rolling snapshot release for a while now and a lot of fixes in the tracker are labelled as fixed in 2.5.3. So just releasing a patched 2.5.2 as 2.5.3 will cause even more confusion. Sigh.
