World is cruel, you know. They did that in the past for ambiguity issues, bad grouping clauses etc, now they have to do one more exercise. It was not just a wild idea to please the SQL committee, this change also closes a big can of worms in the optimizer area. I cannot provide many examples at the moment but you might start looking at CORE-2812 and its links. Just for the record, I validated such queries in PGSQL, MSSQL and Oracle - and they work the way FB3 does now.
