You could weld on some extra metal on the edge of the hole, grind it flush, 
auger it round and then tap it out.
   
  Or you could weld a nut on top and grind the nut down so it's a bit over 1/8" 
thick.  
   
  You could also do as you mention and tap it for the next size up, but you may 
have to use a different brake line clip that has a larger hole or drill the 
clip larger if there's material to spare.

I took one casualty with the subframe assembly, i.e. I stripped the threads on 
the subframe, passenger side brakeline mount bolt hole. I would just put a nut 
behind it if there was access but no such luck in this area of the subframe. I 
think the subframe metal is only about 1/8" thick so I don't think helicoil is 
an option. What woud you guys do? Tap the next larger thread? Other ideas?
