First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... I've had decent luck using helicoils in aluminum down to 1/8, so you'll prob be ok in the steel of the sub frame. It's not like it takes alot of stress anyway, its just holding the brake line in place. I'd try that before drilling any bigger holes.

You could weld on some extra metal on the edge of the hole, grind it flush, auger it round and then tap it out. Or you could weld a nut on top and grind the nut down so it's a bit over 1/8" thick. You could also do as you mention and tap it for the next size up, but you may have to use a different brake line clip that has a larger hole or drill the clip larger if there's material to spare. I took one casualty with the subframe assembly, i.e. I stripped the threads on the subframe, passenger side brakeline mount bolt hole. I would just put a nut behind it if there was access but no such luck in this area of the subframe. I think the subframe metal is only about 1/8" thick so I don't think helicoil is an option. What woud you guys do? Tap the next larger thread? Other ideas? Thanks, Sheen --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo!
