I have a vented cap on mine...if you have a vented cap it will read on
the cap "vented cap"...reason to use one would be for instance if you
have an after market gas tank ,which was on my car when I got it...it
was a 350 car 2 bbl from the factory , no idea which cap should have
been on it or if it once had a vent like Gorans car...but I noticed a
huge "pooof" as I opened mine esp in summer...

eventually I started filling the car up before I parked it in the
garage, and in summer I started smelling gas...its 100Fplus in that
garage in summer....gas expands and with that non vented cap it blew the
gasket at the sending unit....

I bought a "vented cap" and have not had problems since...I can still
get some light "pooof" as I open sometimes...but I will once in awhile
check my cap to see if its open or plugged...

you can check it by (first clean off the surface, b/c gas doesn't taste
very good!) blowing/sucking on the tiny hole in the center of the gap on
the gas side.....it will open/close , you can hear it and 'feel' it...
