Hope somebody can give me a little guidance on this... As I'm finishing up my 
455, I installed the dipstick tube and dipstick with the pan off to see where 
the oil level comes relative to the crankshaft. At the full mark, the 
counterweights and crank throws will splash in the oil. I don't know if I have 
the right dipstick, but it seems like it would be better to have the full oil 
level at least slightly below the counterweights.

Is the crank supposed to splash, or is my "full" mark too high? Also, with a 
stock pan is six quarts the correct amount of oil with a new oil filter?

The only idea I've had so far is to put it together, fill the engine and filter 
with six quarts and run it, then mark that as the "full" level on the dipstick.
