First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... David, A 67 8 cyl takes 6 quarts all others are 5 quarts. (except the 69 6 cyl which takes 4 1/2 quarts) The level sounds about right, as the motoer is running the level in the pan drops to oil the motor. Just Smile... It makes people wonder what you have been up too... http://www.dingdongtx.org/wapa/fb.htm http://firstgenfirebird.org/show/closeup.mv?CarID=53 Thanks, Kevin "In God We Trust"

Hope somebody can give me a little guidance on this... As I'm finishing up my 455, I installed the dipstick tube and dipstick with the pan off to see where the oil level comes relative to the crankshaft. At the full mark, the counterweights and crank throws will splash in the oil. I don't know if I have the right dipstick, but it seems like it would be better to have the full oil level at least slightly below the counterweights. Is the crank supposed to splash, or is my "full" mark too high? Also, with a stock pan is six quarts the correct amount of oil with a new oil filter? The only idea I've had so far is to put it together, fill the engine and filter with six quarts and run it, then mark that as the "full" level on the dipstick. Thanks, David Learner '67 Convertible - hoping to be on the road by spring (of this year!) ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for last minute shopping deals?
