I'm not really all that concerned with the original application, i was just
wondering if this seems like a square deal for a 400 motor already built. Heck,
one estimate i got for rebuilding my 326 was 2500. I talked to the guy and
asked a few questions and he said the motor has less than 1000 miles on it, it
was pulled out because the car was wrecked. He told me the name of the shop
that did all the machine work and said he had all the paperwork from the build.
I told him i was looking for a strong motor that was streetable. He said that
this one would be great then. I figured it'd be worth looking at, take along a
wrench and turn it over a couple times to see if there's any spots that drag or
grind. It just kind of makes me leary that the add says 'as is' and the spark
plug in the photo looks as if it was painted with the block, like it was
cleaned up and had paint slapped on it and it was never really run in a car.

KJ,

The ad only shows the block casting number and the head number. You
really need the two-letter engine code stamped into the front of the
block to know the original application. With the cam, intake and carb
all different from an original RAIII, it may or may not have its power
curve where you want it.
