I know it's more expensive, but your steering input conducts through this part. The steering system is not the place to save a buck. There's a reason the original part is rivet, not bolted together. This is not a part that you should rebuild using dime store bolts. It should be replaced. If you plan to upgrade your steering gearbox, some later model steering gearboxes require the metric version of the rag joint. You can buy a new rag joint that connects the original steering column to the newer metric box from corvettesteering.com. I think they sell the original coupler as well and in the price range of $40-$50 bucks. This is a good time to decide if you plan to update the steering gear with a different ratio because that change can effect your purchase choice for this coupler. Larry
