I believe it is the Fisher Body Manual that gives you the measurements and
even how to build stand-off sticks that hold everything in place.
I ended up doing mine not quite to the spacing they said due to the fact the
new top's center rib holder was 1 1/2" further to the rear than it should
have been.
Just remember that the center rib on your bows should be vertical when you
get done stretching the material. I marked the location of the rear window
seam on masking tape prior to taking off my top. It was handy later on.
Everything else works away from the center and it needs to be summer
temperatures when you work the material.
I replaced all of my 'cardboard' with the new plastic style, also. From
Ames. Had to hit up a local interior shop for more tack strip in the front
because the one with the kit was not thick enough, so I ran short. I had
the 5 piece kit with over-size shipping. This is also the time to repair or
replace the damage to your rain gutter. Mine was fine when I started but I
had to repair it when I slipped with a tool and broke a piece off of the dry
and brittle trough.
Another maddening but rewarding job. I would do it again, to a first gen
firebird, but I never had even dreamed of doing a top replacement before...
Enjoy!
