Dan,

I just want to know how you "opened the hood" and showed you a problematic
driveshaft. That is way under the car and not visible from the engine bay.
You sure it wasn't something else?

As far as the steering wheel play, that is usually due to a bad rag-joint on
the steering box or the steering box itself needs to be tightened. It's
usually never the column or the wheel.

Subject: [FGF] '69 drive-shaft coupling cracked, loose

Went to pick up my '69 yesterday, following bodywork re-build after
crash. Front end looks perfect but garage informed me that car was
still un-driveable. They discovered that the coupling in the
driveshaft had torn loose. We opened the hood and they showed me the
problem. The rubber grommet was split and the coupling connection was
spinning freely back and forth.

Also, the steering wheel had way too much free play. It's an after-
market wheel, a "racing" wheel, smaller than standard.

This could have been the cause of the accident. Time to get to work
researching this. Anyone who has any experience with the drive-shaft,
comments would be much appreciated as always.
