Are you talking about the side springs or the entire spring assembly for the bottom?

Definitely replace the springs. A lot of folks seem to pass on this, but I
replaced the bottom springs on both my seats (no welding, despite what the
catalogs say), and the new springs were TONS stiffer than the old worn out
springs. Shops "fix" them by simply wrapping wire around any broken parts
to splice them back together, but that does nothing to restore the original
tension. I wish they sold replacements for the rear seat bottoms...

Doug,

I replaced the covers and the foam on my front seats but didn't replace
the springs, which I regret.
I was almost sitting on the floor, 5 out of 8 springs where broken on
the driver seat.

The upholsterer talked me into not replacing the springs, instead he
fixed them in some way.
Listening to him was a huge mistake. My driver seat is not at all as
comfy as the passenger seat.
The springs are probably too weak after so many years of use. They are
squeaking to.

Hi guys -

I'm installing new seat covers in my 68 (custom interior). All the
vendors sell side springs and seat bottom springs for the front buckets.
Should I assume mine are ok if they aren't broken? Of course the seats
feel squished down, but that may be the foam more than anything. Or
should I replace the springs just because I have the opportunity to? Is
there welding involved with replacing the side or bottom springs?

Thanks.

Doug
