Wayne,
I wanted to keep the cabin basically stock as well, so I hid 6.5"
midbass speakers in the vent area of the kick panels, and 22mm silk dome
tweeters on the top of the dash. The tweeter pods are constructed so
they blend in with the dash

jpg). I put a matched pair of midbasses and tweeters in the convertible
well area, which obviously only work when the top is up
(http://www.chrisandchristi.com/69conv/stereopics/photos/6.5s.jpg). I
have the dimensions for the board if you or anyone else is interested.
It can easily hold 6x9s as well if you choose to go that route. I have
a AM/FM/CD/MP3 player in the glovebox
(http://www.chrisandchristi.com/69conv/images/after/July%204th%20075.jpg
) with an infrared repeater installed under the ashtray so I can control
the unit with a remote without opening the glovebox, continuing with the
stock interior theme. You could go with this set up and be able to hear
the tunes with the top down. This was the basic set up of the first
system I installed as well, and it worked fine for me for years.

If it's still not loud enough, install a few thousand watts of
amplification and a couple subs. This did the trick for us
(http://www.chrisandchristi.com/69conv/stereopics/photos/completedtr.jpg
). :) If you're interested, there's more pictures on our site
www.chrisandchristi.com. Click on The Garage, 1969 Firebird Conv, and
there's a link to competition stereo install pics. I'm currently
building a whole new site, so I apologize for the crappy garage area.

Subject: [FGF] dash questions

First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List
........................................................................
.
hi guys,

I am putting the interior back in my 69 convertible and have some
questions.

1. Does anyone have the bezel off the dash in their car where they
could take a picture of the dash framework
in the area of the radio?? I feel someone has hacked mine up.

2. What are you guys doing for some real sound in your convertibles. I
have the two speaker replacement
set up in the dash replacing the old single center but want some
full range without going too far from a stock look.

Thanks again for your input.

Wayne
