Similar to what Chris did (although not as elaborate), I placed some surface mount speakers on the kick panel and installed two 10 inch sub woofers in a stock box in the trunk. I also added the 2 3-way 6x9's to the woofer box. To boost the sound, I installed two amps, under each front seat, one for the 6x9's and one for the sub-woofers. I get really good sound (relatively speaking) at higher speeds with the top down and the look is close to stock (although I did put the new receiver in the org radio spot - the dash was already hacked before I bought the car).
