I got a quote from Hagerty through my Allstate agent last week. They require a
restoration project car to be at least 50% complete to insure. So, I stated my
car was about 60% assembled. They took off all the typical coverages since it
is non-op and basically just provided a quote for theft out of my locked garage
for $209/yr for an agreed value of $25k. The $25k is based on the actual hard
cash for parts out of my pocket, which are either on the car or sitting in the
garage. I then made the mistake of telling my agent I have a 455 and a 5-speed
Tremec when we were filling out the detailed description of the car. Hagerty
considered that modified and literally more than doubled their quote. This
seems a bit ironic considering an all original classic would be collectible and
worth more. So, for me it's about $450/yr to insure my project car with the
restriction of zero miles. Pretty crazy. Keep in mind I live in southern
California so it's probably more expensive in my zip code
. I'm still considering what to do.
