Yes, find a different machine shop. I have had experience with Ohio Crankshaft
and have not had any issues, it was a minor balance.

Subject: [FGF] Crank Balancing

First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List
.........................................................................

I bought an Ohio Crankshaft from Butler, 455 crank for 400. I just got word
from my balancing shop that the thing needs 5 "heavies" added up front and 3 in
the back. These are 42 g per piece and they cost $20 per piece, i.e. $160 on
top of the $75 balance charge. I spoke with the Ohio rep and they said their
cranks are set up for stock bobweight. My rods are lightened about 9 g from the
rod balancing process and the piston/pins are 90 g lighter than stock. So,
according to Ohio, I should have to drill out the counter balances on the crank
to loose weight, not add weight. Total crap, buyer beware of the extra costs to
fix these cranks.

Also, they have asked me if I want the weight welded or tapped. Tapped is
subbed out so I assume will cost a lot more. Any advice on which method to go
with?

Thanks,
Sheen
