I have the same problems, I couldn't even get it to shut at first. Same
problem with the doors.

The seal should point/face out. If it's facing in the seal will leak with
water pressure and bunch-up in the corners.
The only problem I've had is the so-called factory [read more $] won't
compress enough to allow proper alignment of the lid. Maybe in a year or so
it's comply...
