The H pipe equalizes the back-pressure on the cylinder heads.  I'm no expert
on engine performance, but intuitively it seems like that would cause your
engine to run more efficiently, which should result in increased horsepower.

How important is the h-pipe in the exhaust system?  Mines been replaced with
just pipes on each side with a muffler.
