First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... I had a Hurst V-matic in my 68 firebird w/ stock console back in '89. Ironically (if memory serves), the factory chrome shifter plate from hurst was almost the same size as the stock console opening (less the top factory wood grain plate of course). I screwed the plate to the console through the rubber boot, and it was a great fit with no modifications. Simply bolted the shifter to the trans tunnel and slipped the console right over it. Unfortunately, I don't have photos, and I don't even know if they make that shifter anymore. But it did work. Joe P. can attest to this. The shifter had "ratchet" and "standard" modes...great shifter.
