Jim, I did that swap on my previous Bird with very good result and will definetly do it to my new Bird as well. I used a gear box from a '84 or '87 GTA (can't really remember what year it was) and it bolted right in. You will need a new rag joint though. It can be found in the "HELP" section at your local dealer or use the one from the donor car. You also need custom made hoses or the now available adaptors that companies like detroit speed & engineering sells. I didn't have any problems with steering stroke beeing limited, be prepared to see an increase in steering effort though. The steering gets quite heavy but can be controlled by stretching a spring in the steering pump outlet port which controls the preassure in the line, or get the spring from the donor car. To me it was never such a big problem that I bothered to stretch that spring. While my 69 is apart I was going to pull the power steering box and have it rebuilt. I've seen messages from people saying the newer boxes are much better. I'm wondering if I should buy a 92 IROC box and have that rebuilt instead. I understand it's a direct bolt on. Will the hose ends need to be changed? When I talked to the local PS box re-builder about putting an IROC box on my S-10 he said they would have to redo the internal stops inside the box or I would not be able to turn the wheels all the way to the frame stops and the turning circle would be much bigger. Has anyone who has swapped noticed that being an issue? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Submissions to Firebird-L: <[email protected]> Unsubscribe from Firebird-L: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Help: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/firebird/Firebird-L.html> Classifieds: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/ubb/> Owner Pictures: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/show/> Donations: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/store/cart.mv?999999> FGF Merchandise: <http://FirstGenFirebird.org/store>
