First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Hi Sheen, Did you use std bore 455 pistons or oversized? I read one place that std bore replacement pistons were hard to come by because anyone ordering 455 pistons didn't need std bore. My 400 block is already .030 oversized and I'd love to go up to 455 but don't want to bore to 455 +.030. In a message dated 10/1/2008 10:03:03 P.M. Eastern Daylight Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... For the 455 conversion, you simply bore a 400 block 30 over (actually to 4.151, which is 31 over), use a 4.21 stroke crank (std 455 stroke) w/3" mains for a 400 block and you have 455 ci. I used an Ohio crankshaft for my conversion. You can buy 60 over pistons for a 455. To fit these into a 400 block, you would have to bore to 4.210, which is 90 over relative to a stock 4.120 block. I don't know if the 455 and 400 blocks have different sleeve OD's. If they are the same, you could go up to "90" over but would have to convert to a 455 stroker crank or buy custom pistons. I would be curious to know if the sleeve OD's are the same.
