First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... the original 67-69 rearends in our cars are the 8.2" 10 bolts like you already know,not sure what spline count.... later years,71 or 72 have a 8.5" 10 bolt which is a little bit stronger,and the axles for it are 28 spline.. there are 12 bolt rearends for early camaros ,gtos,etc,that take a 12 bolt ring gear,and they also have 12 bolts on the rearend cover..they are 30 spline..and are stronger than the 8.5" 10 bolt rearends,and are expensive if you can find one.. **************New MapQuest Local shows what's happening at your destination.
