I'm jumping in a little late here, but the all thread tool gets my vote if I
ever have to do it again. I borrowed the internal spring compressor from
OReilly's and even with the sub frame off the car, it was still a PITA to work
everything up inside the spring. To add to that, on the re-install I set the
top hooks too high on one spring and trapped them up inside the spring pocket
on the frame. I had to go borrow another tool to get it and the spring back out
to start over. Then on the other spring, as I was compressing it down with the
impact, one of the sets of hooks spun out and everything went flying. I feel
lucky I only wound up with a good bruise on my shin.
I'm a firm believer in "use the right tool for the job", but in this case it
sounds like southern engineering (or Yankee ingenuity) gets the gold star.

Thanks again to Larry and Kevin and all who responded regarding the coil spring
compressor. I am delighted to report that the "all thread" tool worked like a
champ. That is absolutely the quickest, easiest and safest way that I have ever
removed a coil spring!!! No danger of being maimed or killed! It was also
convenient that I found all of the parts already in my shop, so I didn't have
to buy anything. Cheap, quick, safe - what more can you ask for?

Thanks again for all the help!
David
